Dr Ekuru Aukot, speaking before hundreds of leading global affairs leaders on 'Constitutionalism and Rule of Law' at the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs in Yale University, in New Haven, Connecticut, expressed disappointment that IEBC in its present form and shape cannot be entrusted to conduct a credible election.

“Free and fair election is synonymous to integrity! If the chairman and his commissioners through their acts or omissions have compromised the integrity of the institution as evidenced by the charge sheet against 'Smith & Ouzman' in the Crown Court in London, then they have no option but to leave at their own volition instead of being pushed out. It is coming and it's inevitable,” he said.

Dr Aukot also hinted at vying for Presidency in 2017. He said he will announce his final decision on May 1, 2016 at Serena Hotel.

There have been calls from several quarters that IEBC Commissioners should resign over integrity issues.

Cord leaders Raila Odinga, Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka on Monday led their supporters to IEBC headquarters in Nairobi to evict the commissioners from office.

Their efforts were however thwarted after police dispersed the demonstrators using tear gas.

On Tuesday, the opposition leaders maintained that they will camp at IEBC offices every Monday until the commissioners leave office.

They said they will boycott 2017 polls if IEBC bosses don't resign.

The Civil Society, National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) and the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) have also asked the Hassan led Commission to leave office, arguing that Kenyans have lost trust in the body.
