The persistent land problems bedeviling Naivasha constituency can only be solved by demarcating boundaries and issuing individual title deeds to residents, area MP has said.
Speaking in Naivasha town today, John Kihagi, who is the area MP said that the land problems in Naivasha will only end by giving the residents what is rightfully theirs.
Kihagi said that there are so many land problems in the area because it is hard to establish who owns which land.
“In a situation whereby only a few individuals are owning the whole constituency you will definitely expect chaos and wrangles over land. Thousands of squatters in Naivasha have been fighting for their rights for so long and its time the government solved this issue once and for all. Let it be know who are the real owners of which land and this problem will be over,” said Kihagi.
He added that selling land to tycoons and assuming the poor locals was like adding petrol to an already burning fire.
“Naivasha is owned by a few tycoons and they have even blocked roads and people have nowhere to pass and this is what we are opposed to unless the government listens to us they will keep hearing of our complains,” he said.
Kihagi was addressing members of the Ngata farmers association after they were arraigned in court for invading private property.
