The National Super Alliance (NASA) on Friday raised their concerns over the voters register, when they met with the African Union (AU) elections monitoring team.
Led by presidential candidate Raila Odinga, the team told the entourage; led by former South African President Thabo Mbeki that there are still questions hanging over the integrity of the voters register.
“The IEBC announced that it has uncovered thousands of dead voters in the register following an audit. However, after the dead were presumably removed, the number of voters went up instead of going down,” said Raila.
One of the issues the Opposition raised is that the country’s election laws require that the register be published 60 days to the polls, which has not happened with only 18 days left to the poll day.
“We are equally deeply concerned at how the police and security agencies are being prepared to interfere in election activities,” said NASA running mate Kalonzo Musyoka.
The two groups discussed ways to eliminate the possibility of election rigging, saying it is important to maintain a peaceful environment.
“The country cannot withstand another rigged poll,” said Raila.
Holding a credible election has been Nasa’s worry, accusing the government of planning to rig by using unscrupulous means.
They have accused Jubilee of harnessing security agents in readiness for rigging of the August polls, claims that have been rubbished by the government.
