David Kiplagat has been elected the new Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker.

Kiplagat, an Information Technology (IT) expert popularly known as "DK" beat a host of prominent lawyers among them incumbent Isaac Terer to clinch the powerful seat.

The vote had to go to the second round after no candidate garnered the required two-thirds in the first round.In the first round, Kiplagat won with 20 votes ahead of lawyer Christopher Mitei who had 16 votes while outgoing Speaker Isaac Terer and Jane Masai had six votes each.

This prompted the Assembly clerk to call for a second round where Kiplagat won by 27 votes against Mitei who had 20 votes.
