The state has dismissed reports linking the National Intelligence Service to the recent chaos witnessed in Migori during an ODM Party rally.

Speaking on Wednesday, Government spokesperson Eric Kiraithe absolved the state from any blame, accusing the Opposition of manufacturing lies to paint the government in bad light.

He added that the government has since launched a thorough probe into the matter to establish perpetrators.

“As we know, there is a group of politicians who always stir chaos to gain political sympathy and we know what they are doing. The government is investigating,” he said.

Kiraithe further noted that the government will be deploying security personnel to areas prone to poll violence ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

“We know areas that are prone to violence and police named Migori as one of the areas with security threats during the election period,” he said.

The Monday violence in Migori left one of Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho's bodyguard with gunshot wounds.

The Opposition claimed that the government was behind the violence, adding that there was a wider scheme to assassinate governor Joho.
