Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui has promised Nakuru residents that the ongoing construction of Itare Dam will benefit the locals in a big way.
Kinyanjui on Thursday visited the site of construction in Kuresoi North.
In his Facebook post, he said that his familiarization tour was necessitated by the need to find a balance or a good interface between the stakeholders.
The national government flagship project commenced in April 2016.
It has however suffered major setbacks among them legal battles with the Kalenjin elders who opposed the construction.
According to Kinyanjui the project is expected to be complete by 2021.
An estimate of over 800,000 Nakuru residents are expected to benefit from it by having clean piped water.
"Currently the project is at 17% completion and has already benefited the residents of Kuresoi through murruming of the main road and employment opportunities even though more is required through mutual understanding with the contractor to ensure more employment opportunities,"Kinyanjui said.
