It has emerged that Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa linked a City Hall official to representatives of the SUEZ company.

It has been claimed that the French firm is planning to buy the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company.

Addressing the Water and Sanitation committee on Monday, Nairobi Water CEO Peter Kimori said Wamalwa introduced him to the said officials in efforts discuss how they could partner to improve services and not to sell the state corporation.

“The CS introduced me to them sometime last year in November. They paid me a courtesy call. We discussed and I sent them to the [NCWSC] managing director to listen to them,” he said as quoted by the Star.

The executive revealed that they discussed matters minimisation of non-revenue water, alternative harvesting of storm water and water recycling to improve the supply to city residents.

“We lose up to 38 per cent of water we supply per day. So I sent them to the MD to see if they can work to improve this,” he said.

Last week, Water PS Fred Sigor distanced the ministry from claims that it was behind the plot to sell NCWSC.
