The officials claimed that by evaluating teachers perfomance SRC is overstepping its mandate.

The Union's National Assistant Treasurer, John Matiang'i and the National Executive Council (NEC) Member, Geoffrey Mogire said that they will not allow SRC to conduct teachers' performance appraisal.

Speaking at Marani Sub-County, Kisii County during the burial of Kisii Central Branch KNUT Treasurer, Aron Ariga Gwoma, the two teachers' union officials reminded SRC that evaluating teachers' performance was not within its mandate.

“It is TSC job to evaluate teachers perfomance and not SRC,” said Mating'i.

Matiang'i threatened to mobilize teachers across the country to collect signatures to petition the government, through the National Assembly, to trim SRC powers or have it disbanded if it continues to overstep its duties.

"The TSC can only seek an advisory oipinion from SRC, but that does not imply that SRC can dictate to TSC what should be done to the teachers in this country," said Mogire.
