Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has slammed critics condemning politicians eyeing seats in the August 8 polls as independent candidates.
He says that it is their right to vie as independent candidates in the August 8 general election.
Kabogo, who chairs the Kenyan Alliance of Independent Candidates (KAIC), says that it is wrong for some politicians to condemn the association.Speaking in Kiambu Town on Sunday, Kabogo said that independent candidates will not be intimidated or threatened by anyone.“We (independent) candidates have every right to contest in the August 8 polls just like other candidate allied to various political parties,” he said as quoted by the People Daily.Kabogo said that some politicians who won the party nomination through the backdoor are feeling threatened by independent candidates adding that KAIC will not be intimidated, saying that it will stand its root and support its members in the August 8 polls. He maintained that KAIC is fully behind President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election bid in the August 8 polls and that the association will deal directly with President Kenyatta and not power brokers.A section of politicians in Jubilee has criticised Kabogo’s association claiming that its agenda is to cause voter apathy in Jubilee perceived strongholds.KAIC was formed by politicians who lost in the Jubilee nomination with Kabogo being appointed as chair and deputised by Uasin Gishu governor hopeful Bundotich Buzeki. The alliance that has over 3000 members and aspirants says that it will clinch a majority of seats in the August 8 polls.
