The Central Organization of Trade Unions (Cotu) secretary general Francis Atwoli has admitted that the August 8, general elections will be a two-horse-race.

During this year's Labour Day celebrations at Uhuru Park, Atwoli said president Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga will be the only presidential heavyweights at the ballot.

He likened other aspirants to a donkey, saying Raila and Uhuru are the only horse.

''This time round we have two horses. If you see a third contestant be sure that, that is a donkey. But above all, the elections should be peaceful,” he said, Monday May 1.

Speaking in the ceremony graced by the president, his deputy William Ruto, alongside other government officials, Atwoli sidelined the union from political affiliation, saying Cotu does not take political sides.

''Your Excellency I want to make something very clear. Cotu does not support any political party. We have no affiliation to politics, but we provide political advice whenever we see things going wrong. We are neither in Nasa nor Jubilee,'' he clarified.

Atwoli further asked political parties and coalition to create manifestos that recognise workers, saying workers are a better part of the political alignment.
