Presidential service communication Unit Director Dennis ole Itumbi has spoken about his award of Sh5 million by the courts for illegal arrest and detention by the police over the hacking of International Criminal Court emails in 2012.Itumbi said that the verdict was revolutionary since it guarantees Kenyans the freedom to access information. He said the the information that the ICC relied on was malicious and the prosecution had totally lied.“The bigger issue in court today was not #ItumbiSh5m - It was actually a decision on access to information. Revolutionary verdict by all means,” Itumbi said on his Twitter post.“First I went to @IntlCrimCourt & they said they had no role to play in my arrest, I then sued police who said ICC ordered them to arrest me & tabled evidence to show ICC had lied to me. On that admission #ItumbiSh5m happened. Next stop, ICC - I have evidence the Prosecutor lied!,” he added. However, his response has not gone well with some Kenyans.@GiftMasinde said: “I hope you can whisper to @UKenyatta and @WilliamsRuto how wrongful detentions shall cost our economy dearly seeing that you're a 'beneficiary' of the same.”@ones_mc said: “Access to information when TVs were off.........”@neps_n said: “Really? Then probably every Kenyan why watches TV should be awarded 5m for being denied access to information today.”
