Speaking at Mbooni Town on Sunday, Kilonzo Junior denied speculations that he intends to unseat incumbent Kivutha Kibwana.
According to the Makueni senator, he will be seeking re-election as senator in the August general election.
“I have no plans of contesting the Makueni governor seat as being speculated by some people and media,” he said as quoted by the Daily Nation.
Kilonzo Junior said that he supports Kivutha Kibwana’s re-election in the August polls.
There have been speculations that Kilonzo had declared interest in the Makueni governor seat.
Sources within Wiper Party say that Kilonzo could have been advised by Wiper top leaders to drop his bid after Kibwana agreed to work with the Kalonzo Musyoka led party.
Two weeks ago governor Kibwana signed an agreement to work with Wiper in the August 8 polls.
Real estate tycoon David Masika Wambua has joined the race to unseat Kibwana and will be vying on Wiper Party ticket.
The real estate tycoon will now battle it out with Kibwana in the August 8 general election.
