Kiambu senator Kimani Wamatangi has refuted claims that he is eyeing the Kiambu gubernatorial seat in the August 8 general election.

The senator says that he has no ambition for the Kiambu gubernatorial seat as being reported in some media outlets.

According to Wamatangi, he will be seeking re-election as senator in the August general election.

“I want to clarify that I have no plans to run for the Kiambu governor seat as being speculated in some media outlets,” he said on Thursday.

Wamatangi said that he is focusing on pushing for key laws and policies as senator if re-elected in August.

Senator Wamatangi faces stiff competition in his re-election bid with Ngewa MCA Karungo Thang’wa declaring interest to send him packing.

On the other hand, the Kiambu gubernatorial seat has attracted several aspirants who have vowed to send the incumbent packing.

Political analysts say that Kiambu gubernatorial race will be among those to watch in the August polls.

Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu, real estate tycoon David Gakuyo, James Nyoro, John Mugwe and Ruiru based businesswoman Njoki Gathendu have declared interest to unseat Kabogo.

All the aspirants are eyeing to contest on Jubilee Party ticket.
