Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has denied claims that he is favoring the re-election of Kitui governor Julius Malombe in the August 8 general election.

Kalonzo says that he has no preferred candidate in the Kitui governor race.

Speaking in Kitui during burial of Senator David Musila’s mother on Saturday, Kalonzo said that Kitui locals are free to decide on whom they want to elect as governor between Narc leader Charity Ngilu, senator Musila, Malombe or any other in the August 8 polls.

“I want to make it clear that I am not favoring any candidate in the Kitui governor race as being claimed by some people,” he said as quoted by the Star.

Kalonzo said that he will work with the candidate locals will elect as governor in August.

There have been claims that Kalonzo is favoring the re-election of Malombe.

Malombe trounced senator Musila to win the Wiper ticket for the gubernatorial seat.

Musila criticized the Wiper nomination exercise claiming that it was not free and fair.

The senator went on to resign from his position as Wiper chairman declaring that he will contest for the governor seat as an independent candidate.

Ngilu, a former Lands Cabinet Secretary (CS) is also in the Kitui gubernatorial race and has vowed to unseat Malombe.

Ngilu claims that Malombe has not done anything to eradicate poverty in the county despite his government receiving huge funding from the national government.
