Machakos Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala has dismissed claims that he has opted out of the Machakos gubernatorial race.
Kiala says that his bid to unseat incumbent Dr Alfred Mutua is still alive.
Speaking in Machakos town on Sunday during a voter sensitisation rally, Kiala exuded confidence of unseating governor Mutua.
He claimed that his rivals are spreading information that he has bowed out of the race to unseat governor Mutua.
“My bid to unseat Dr Mutua in the August general elections still stands and I have no plan of opting out,” he said.
Kiala said that Machakos people need someone who will spearhead real development.
He exuded confidence of being elected as next governor in the August 8 polls.
The Deputy governor who has had frosty relationship with his boss (Governor) Mutua since 2013 has on several occasions criticized Dr Mutua’s leadership style.
Kiala has also been accusing Mutua of misusing public resources and funds allocated to the county by the national government.
The Deputy Governor will be seeking Wiper party endorsement to unseat Mutua.
A section of Wiper leaders among them Machakos senator Johnson Muthama are behind Kiala’s bid to unseat Mutua.
In November last year, Kiala claimed that her daughter had kidnapped by people who he claimed asked him to drop his bid for the Machakos gubernatorial seat if he wanted to see her daughter alive.
Kiala’s daughter was however found with claims that she was not kidnapped as earlier claimed.
Kiala alongside Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) party leader Wavinya Ndeti have vowed to send Mutua packing in the August 8 general elections.
