Njenga, who is vying for the seat on a Kanu ticket said he should not be discriminated against because of his past relationship with Mungiki.

“My opponents have been spreading falsehoods that if I am elected Mungiki will re-emerge and start mistreating women,” he said on Friday.

He was speaking at Mangura village during the burial of Margaret Ngatia, the wife to a prominent businessman in Nanyuki.

Njenga said he had wanted to contest for the Senate position on a Jubilee Party ticket but was denied the nomination certificate.

He said Kanu supports President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election and thus Kanu aspirants should not be fought against.

Among the politicians who attended the burial included John Mwaniki who is the running mate to gubernatorial aspirant Ndiritu Muriithi.Mwaniki called on Kenyans to conduct peaceful campaigns.
