The endorsement of ODM nominee Moses Kajwang for Homa Bay senatorial by-election by former PM Raila Odinga during the burial of Fidel Odinga in Bondo over the weekend has been faulted. United Democratic Movement party candidate Silas Jakakimba has accused ODM MPs from Homa Bay County of pushing such an endorsement. Jakakimba said the ODM elections board did a shoddy nomination behind the party leader and pushing for Kajwanga’s endorsement during a farewell to Fidel was laughable. “It is very sad that at a funeral for Fidel we do endorsement for a candidate in the coming by-election in Homa Bay County,” he said. Speaking to the press in Kisumu, Jakakimba said Raila was not in the picture when Kajwang was nominated following the botched party nominations. He alleged that Fidel supported him even when he decamped to UDM party and further announced that he also supported Hillary Alila who is contesting as an independent candidate. Jakakimba claimed Fidel never supported the ODM nominee and it was not good to endorse Kajwang at his funeral. "It is on record and I can testify that Fidel never supported the ODM nominee, instead he supported me and my brother Alila, why then push the ODM nominee during his burial?" he posed. He further said that UDM is in the CORD coalition and it was not proper for Raila to take sides and asked him to allow the people of Homa Bay to choose their next senator.
