Former president of Tanzania has expressed sorrow following the death of the former powerful Cabinet Minister Nicholas Biwott.
Biwott, 77, died on July 11, 2017 after a long illness.
Speaking Tuesday at AIC Milimani in Nairobi during the requiem mass of the late minister, Kikwete described the late Biwott as a hero that not only Kenya has lost but also the entire East Africa countries.
“Kenya has lost one of it heroes. We Tanzanians have lost a friend. East Africa has lost one of its people that had a lot of commitment to bring unity among the East African countries,” said Kikwete.
“When I had my friend had passed away, I was so devastated. After I heard the news, I called the family and condoled with them,” Kikwete added.
Kikwete further noted he had worked with the late Biwott when they were both ministers before he (Kikwete) became Tanzanian president.
The service was also attended by the Former Prime Minister and National Super Alliance (Nasa) presidential candidate Raila Odinga among other leaders.
Biwott will be buried Thursday, July 20.
