Ex-Gem legislator Jakoyo Midiwo may have after all cut links with his cousin and ODM leader Raila Odinga after decades of working together.

Last year, Midiwo lost to Elisha Odhiambo in ODM primaries and subsequently lost in August polls when he ran as an independent candidate.

And on Sunday, in Kitale, Midiwo, who was speaking in parables, warned that Kenya is not a monarch or an aristocracy.

"The poor must also be given a chance. Kenya is not a monarch or an aristocracy. Those with such thinking should better drop it.

"If changes are necessary, let us focus on the economy and not the leadership structure. Let these changes be genuine," he said, apparently in opposition to Raila's proposed referendum.

At the event, Midiwo was warmly welcomed by Deputy President William Ruto and sources intimate that the two had met in Sugoi earlier before.

While he did not explicitly declare support for Ruto, Midiwo may have joined Luo Nyanza 2017 losers led by Agostino Neto and Sylvanus Osele in backing the DP's 2022 quest.
