Governor Nathif Jama has dismissed public criticisms directed at his administration, saying the defunct Transitional Authority is to blame for the flaws in financial and procurement irregularities that has been recorded in Garissa County in 2013.

Speaking on Thursday, Jama said the officials working under the transitional authority were not cooperative since they knew they were not there to stay.

Jama who appeared for a second time before the Public Accounts Committee to respond to the numerous audit queries distanced himself from the allegations saying he should never be crucified for the misdeeds of others.

“The defunct Transition Authority never formed an audit committee before they exited office. The audit queries that emerged during my first year as governor in Garissa County were solely because the staff were never helpful or cooperative. They even left office without clearing,” Jama submitted.

Auditor General Dr Edward Ouko had raised questions as to why the county had single-sourced a chartered aircraft to serve the governor and other senior leaders from Nairobi to the six Garissa sub-counties and back to the city.
