Garissa governor Nathif Jama has firmly defended his recent cabinet reshuffle, saying he does regret or owe anyone an apology for the same.
In an interview with a local daily newspaper, Jama said that the constitution mandated him to conduct the cabinet reshuffle if and when he deems it necessary.
Jama said the main driving factor for the changes was simply to improve service delivery to the public.
“How does transferring any executive member from one docket to another block investigations?” he asked.
Jama was reacting to widespread allegations by a section of MCAs, who criticized him of deliberately transferring county finance executives anytime the county assembly summoned them.
Since resuming office in 2013, Jama has transferred Mukhtar Idriss, Ahmed Dayib and just last week Ahmed Aden from the finance docket. Aden was transferred a day after appearing before the county investments and accounts committee for probing.
On Wednesday, several MCAs led by Nassir Mohamed trashed the transfers as being suspicious.
