Garissa County Governor Nathif Jama has dismissed Ali Bunow Korane's endorsement for the Garissa County gubernatorial seat by National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, saying such political games won't bring development to the area.
In a Facebook post published on Jama's official page on Saturday, the governor implored politicians to let the citizenry exercise their democratic right of electing their preferred candidate.
"One should not confuse the craving for a better Garissa County with a mere endorsement by a certain family," Jama said.
"An endorsement is an evolution by the people through election in believing your ideas and merit," he added.
Duale, earlier in the day on Saturday drummed up support for Ali Bunow Korane, insisting that he is the right candidate to replace Jama in the 2017 general elections.
Jama floored Korane in last elections, winning narrowly in a closely contested affair. They will square it out again next year, after Korane was endorsed by the council of elders to go for the top seat.
