The problem of water shortage that has been affecting the area is partly solved following the launch of the new project.

The project is expected to benefit more than 5000 residents of this area. It will complement the first project which was launched in Garissa town. Speaking after launching the project, Jama said that his government was committed to ensuring that the residents have water.

He said that he is determined to change the lives of the residents during his second term in office.

“We are determined to transform the lives of our people by intiating key projects. I personally have no time to engage in politics, which will not help our people,” Jama said.

The water of the project is drawn from River Tana through a distance of 74KM. With the new project rolling, persistent water shortages in the area is considered a thing of the past.

The county boss, who has been very vocal on matters affecting the people, said that the water will be pumped up to Ijara town to ensure that residents have enough to cater for their needs.

“The project will provide a lasting solution to the perennial water shortage,” he said. The governor added: “The project will mark the end of the long suffering of residents, who trek long distances in search of water as their taps frequently ran dry due to the intermittent water supply.”
