Garissa Governor Jama Nathif has stated that the Northern economic bloc comprising of several counties from the region will be a game changer.

The governor,  who is similarly the FCDC chair, said the bloc has so far made good ties with a number of development partners and was therefore well on course in transforming the seven marginalized counties.

"As Northern economic bloc, we are slowly achieving our main agenda as a social and economic unit despite the drought situation ravaging across our counties. We have established good relations with key development partners. We are now knocking at the doors of donor agencies and they are also knocking ours," Jama affirmed.

Four governors from the Northern Kenya have additionally said their economic unit will be a game changer for a region that has remained marginalized for years now.

Speaking during Lamu Cultural Festival, the governors disclosed that under their Frontier County Development Council (FCDC), they had already negotiated for Sh130 billion for the development of roads, provision of basic services as water and revamping sanitation and the energy sectors. 

Other governors present during the event were Lamu Governor Issa Timamy, his Tana River counterpart Hussein Dado and the Marsabit Governor Ukur Yattani.
