Garissa Governor Nathif Jama has accused the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for being biased and used by his opponents to run down his political career. The governor's name is among the list of a hundred and six individuals that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission forwarded to the IEBC to be barred from running for office in the August 8 elections.Jama pointed fingers towards politicians within the national government as the ones who had sponsored the EACC report. He accused those politicians of wanting to ruin the governors' track records for political mileage.“It has come to my attention that the EACC has given a document to the IEBC with my name claiming that I have got issues with integrity. They are playing politics because three weeks ago I got my letter of clearance from the same agency," Jama said.Jama has a case pending in court where he is charged with abuse of office and failure to follow procurement procedures. The governor leased ambulances for Sh70 million from E-plus, a subsidiary of the Kenya Red Cross Society but he has been accused of flouting procurement laws. The governor was addressing a rally in Modogashe town after presiding a handover ceremony of a bus to Modogashe Girls' Secondary School and donation of hay to pastoralists.
