Garissa Governor Nathif Jama has called upon leaders eyeing different elective posts in the forthcoming general polls not to make remarks that are likely to trigger violence before, during and after the exercise.

The county boss, who will be defending his seat on Wiper Party ticket, said that the heightened political tension witnessed in different parts of the nation as various political parties were conducting nominations is something that the security organs and leaders cannot ignore as we head to the polls.

He went on to urge all the persons involved in the elections in one way or another  to ensure that they mind their language for the sake of this nation.

“I want to call upon all political actors and stakeholders during this electoral process to be mindful of their actions and inaction. What we are witnessing may trigger violence going into the August 8 general election,” Jama said, as quoted by Star.

The governor, who spoke on Saturday at Garissa Farmers’ Training Centre where he presided over the graduation Early Childhood Development Education teachers from the Garissa District Centres for Early Childhood Education, said that the recent twist of events in the nation is a clear sign that all is not well as the election date inches closer.

He added that it is upon aspirants and electorate to ensure that this nation remains peaceful after the polls.

“The politically motivated violence recorded during the party primaries in some parts of the country is enough proof of what is to be expected during the August 8 polls,” he added.
