Through his Lawyer Amunga Cohen, Jama argues that he has no case to answer. The legislator was taken to court alongside six former procurement committee members over misuse of public office.

The county boss has, however, denied the charges leveled against him. Cohen told Garissa senior magistrate Cosmas Maundu that the investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) began at a time when no commissioners were occupying office.

The governor appeared in court alongside the other accused to respond to the charges. The six are, Jawahir Keinan, Rahma Dekow, Abdi Sahal, Mohamed Hassan, Safia Mohamed and Mohamud Mohamed.

“At the time the case was being investigated, the commission was not properly constituted. It is the commissioner who recommend to the DPP that a case proceeds,” Cohen said, as quoted by Star.

The case was adjourned to September 13 when it will be heard again. Addressing the press after the court session, Jama insisted that he is innocent.

“Very soon our innocence on this matter will be brought to the fore,” Jama said.
