Garissa Governor Nathif Jama has urged the national government to increase security surveillance on the Garissa-Isiolo border following rise in suspected inter-clan clashes.

Speaking in Garissa Town on Thursday, the governor said that cases of insecurity on the border points in North  Eastern region are steadily rising.

Jama observed that communities on the Garissa-Isiolo boarder are living in fear after the alleged killing of 20 people in Isiolo two weeks ago.

The governor said that the insecurity cases being reported on the border can get out hand if action is not taken immediately.

The Garissa governor said that the government has to guarantee security to Kenyansliving on border points.

 “We are appealing on the national government to increase surveillance on the Garissa-Isiolo border and others areas as the country heads to the August 8 polls,” said Jama as quoated by the Star.

The governor added that frequent border conflict has negatively impacted on development especially in North Eastern.

Jama at the same time urged leaders in border conflict areas to support peace initiatives by the national, county governments and stakeholders.

He said that is administration will work closely with the national government to foster peace and unity among communities and clans in Garissa and larger North Eastern region.
