Governor Nathif Jama's stern notice to lazy county staff who are in the habit of absconding duties is a welcome. It is a directive that should be followed to the letter.
Garissa County has been making the front pages of local dailies on allegations of either stalled projects, complaints from residents on poor service delivery or issues surrounding corruption.
A number of respected politicians from the county including senator Yussuf Haji and Garissa township legislator Aden Duale have been criticizing Jama over alleged incompetence.
These leaders have been voicing their concerns on underdevelopment and inefficiency of county machinery. It is now time that Garissa County makes headlines for good reasons.
It is high time that Jama begins the mission of wooing investors to invest in the county. Being the county boss, he commands the same way a company executive commands in an organization.
He is the custodian of the county that has received public condemnation over corruption.
Even as the clock ticks closer to 2017, Governor Jama should never sacrifice development for his future politics, tomorrow takes care of itself. All he has to do is take the county to a higher level, an elevated position that will leave him a good legacy.
