Organisers of the Jamhuri Day fete are under siege after 'embarrasing' President Uhuru Kenyatta when he was forced to address just a few Kenyans who turned up for the celebrations.
Held at Kasarani stadium which has a sitting capacity of up to 60,000 people, only a handful of Kenyans were present.
The conspicuous empty seats irked the president and has demanded answers on what happened.
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, whose county was venue to the fete, pointed fingers at the commissioner.
“Jamhuri Day is a national event and not a political one; hence, we cannot be involved since it is usually organised by the provincial administration — from the regional coordinators, county commissioners and chiefs," he said.
During a Jubilee Parliamentary Group meeting at State House on Wednesday, legislators said those who bungled the event must be punished.
Sources said Jubilee MPs blamed Interior Affairs Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho over the bungled event.
