The official handing over ceremony of “The Project for the Expansion of Dormitory for St. Anne’s Girls Primary School” was held in Mumias Central Division, Mumias District, Kakamega County on 16 of June, 2017.
With the objective of improving the educational environment, the project received a grant amount of USD 85,321 (approx. Kshs 8.2 Million) which was used for the construction of 2 dormitories to accommodate 200 girls at St. Anne’s Girls Primary School.
St. Anne’s Girls Primary School is a public school established in 1936 by the Catholic Church. The school has 1,641 girls and 750 girls stay in the dormitory. However, the existing facility had deteriorated and was very crowded so the school was required to construct additional dormitories by the Ministry of Education to improve the girls’ security and hygiene.
During the handing over ceremony, the First Secretary of Economic Cooperation Section at the Embassy of Japan, Mr. Hirotaka Ishikawa congratulated St. Anne’s Girls Primary School for the successful completion of the project and briefly highlighted the other education projects that the Government of Japan has funded in Kenya. In addition to the construction of schools across Kenya, the Government of Japan is an active partner in the development of human resources in the education sector. He hoped that the successful implementation of this project will improve the girls’ academic performance and that future women leaders of this country will rise among them and contribute to the development of the community.
In closing his remarks, he wished the people long life, good health, great happiness, and prosperity.
