Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery received five border patrol vehicles, computers as well as furniture from the Japanese Government.
The Japanese Government donated the facilities through collaboration with the International Organization of Migration to Kenya’s Immigration Department to help address security challenges at the border points.
The equipment worth Sh20.8 million were handed over to by the Japanese Ambassador to Kenya Toshitsugu Uesawa.
Nkaissery noted that the facilities will go a long way in aiding officers in law enforcement in the various immigration activities in the country.
“These motor vehicles, equipment and furniture will be put into good use to enhance the capacity of the department to patrol Kenya’s porous borders as well as address the issue of illegal immigrants,” he said.
Nkaissery says the facilities will be distributed to border points like Busia, Namanga, and Lunga Lunga and other immigration departments across the country.
Kenya is facing major security challenges particularly at the border with Somalia posed by terror group Al Shabaab which has launched numerous attacks inside the country.
