The Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) is partnering with the Japan government to enhance education and technology.

Speaking during his visit at the university’s main campus in Juja, on Thursday, Kingo Toyoda, Deputy Director General of International Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan has assured of the significance of Kenya as an active cooperation partner with Japan.

Toyoda toured the JKUAT Nissin Foods Limited where he had a chance to explore the noodles’ manufacturing plant. The partnership has assisted the institute and the students get the knowledge and exposure they require in their study where he stated that Kenya is a key partner especially in human resource development.

He was shown the Institute of Energy and Environmental Technology (IEET) and was impressed by the progress shown by the institute in the implementation of various thematic areas under the BRIGHT Project which is a technical cooperation between JKUAT and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The cooperation aims at developing the capacity of JKUAT in research and development, education and training in the field of rural electrification using renewable energy.

JKUAT Vice Chancellor Prof Mabel Imbuga welcomed the guest saying the institution has trained scores of students and singled out the Babaroa Scholarships which has benefited many students from needy backgrounds.

Prof Imbuga acknowledged that the collaboration will reinvigorate the partnership between Japan and JKUAT.
