The government of Japan is committed to improving education standards in the country by supporting schools’ infrastructural development, the Japanese envoy to Kenya has said.
Mr Tatsushi Terada who was unveiling a Sh8.5M facelift of Gesurura Primary School in Kitutu Chache North constituency on Monday said Japanese government was keen to see education sector in the country is lifted to higher levels through infrastructural support.
He said through standard facilities, children would be exposed to good learning environment hence boosting their competitiveness in national examination.
“I want to confirm today that Japanese government is always ready to support education standards in the country. We are keen to improve infrastructural standards and facilities in needy institutions. That is the way to go and we are committed as Japanese people to make education succeed in this nation,” he said.
Mr Terada said Japanese government would work closely with county governments to identify institutions that were in urgent need of improved facilities.
“We are working closely with the county governments to identify needy schools because they are at grassroots and understand all the cases. Gesurura Primary School project is just but the start of a series of many projects,” he added.
Kisii county Deputy Governor Dr Joash Maangi welcomed the move and urged international community to work with county governments.
“We are really happy that the members of international community are ready to work with us. We need such support to progress as counties,” he said.
