The special collection, Daisan Ikeda Collection, is comprised of over 300 Japanese literature, religion and philosophy books targeting academic members of staff and students in the faculty's department of literature, languages and linguistics.

While talking to this writer after unveiling the collection yesterday, the University Librarian Janerose Kinyanjui said the special collection would enhance research and learning at the faculty as well as easing retrieval services for Japanese literature users at the library.

She added that the special collection was part of the university's collection development policy that was enabled through demand from staff and students at the faculty.

"Most of the books in this collection have been sourced from the general collections in the library while we acquired others specifically to build a special collection. We will continue growing the collection to facilitate learning and research in the faculty,'' she said.

Already, the university's library is a repository of books and periodicals collection of Chinese culture and literature after the Chinese Ministry of Education donated them to develop a Chinese culture and studies centre at the university early this year.
