A University student was on Saturday murdered in a guest house in Bondo town.
Valerie Apondi Odhiambo,23, a third-year student at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology is said to have been murdered by her boyfriend.
Apondi, who was pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management was found dead after a commotion in their room at around 5 am.
According to a caretaker of the guest house Benson Onchiri, he booked the two in one of their rooms at around 8 pm.
"I heard a commotion from the room and the female occupant was screaming for help," said Onchiri.
He alerted the police who rushed to the scene where the suspect, Collins Oluoch Ogweno was found.
According to the deceased's friend who spoke to journalists, the two spent some time outside the University before they moved to town.
"Collins had requested Apondi that they move to town but she was too reluctant to go with him. I left them and realized that they, later on, went to town," said the source.
The suspect, 25-year-old and a nurse at Nightingale Hospital in Kisumu is said to have used a machete to hack the woman on the neck and back of the head.
Sources closer to the deceased told members of the press that the two have been in a relationship for more than three years.
"The two had a child together and they have been in constant conflict," said the source adding that the suspect accused the deceased of unfaithfulness.
Confirming the incident, Deputy OCPD Bondo Mr. Robert Makau said they recovered a machete and suspected poisonous liquid at the scene.
