A jealous woman in Kiambu risks going to jail for sending an abusive text message to her husband’s female workmate.
Nancy Omollo was on Monday jailed for a month by Kiambu Principal Magistrate Ms Diana Mochache for sending an abusive text message to Ms Janet Njoroge. She was, however, given the option of paying a Sh5,000 fine to secure her freedom.
The prosecution told the court that Omollo committed the offence on May 24 after she became suspicious that her husband was unfaithful to her.
Ms Omollo, who lives in Banana, is said to have been taking the husband’s phone and checking on the missed calls, dialled calls, received calls, text messages and M-pesa messages to see the female name that appears most.
On that day, she took Ms Njoroge’s number from her husband’s phone and sent her an insulting message calling her a prostitute and a husband snatcher. Ms Njoroge went to Kiambu Police Station where she reported the matter.
Ms Omollo admitted to the offence. In mitigation, she said that jealousy made her send the message. She added that she didn’t know that sending such a message was against the law and pleaded that she had learnt her lesson.
She asked for forgiveness from the complainant saying her husband’s recent behaviour made her suspicious that he was having an affair with another woman.
