Independent aspirants in Mombasa have formed a movement they say will champion interests of candidates who lost during party nominations.Interestingly, the head of the movement will be former KTN investigative journalist Mohammed Ali (Moha) who is eyeing the Nyali parliamentary seat. They held their first meeting on Tuesday where the convention’s main agenda was to discuss ways of dislodging aspirants claimed to have fraudulently won tickets during party primaries.Moha lost to Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s cousin Said Abdallah during ODM nominations, a contest he claims was massively rigged in Abdallah’s favour.Moha’s loss has boldened bad blood between him and Joho who he accuses of influencing the outcome of the nomination process in his cousin’s favour. The independents movement, sources told this writer will bring together aspirants for the posts of MP and MCA.It was not clear at the time of publication of this story whether candidates vying for the seats of governor, senator and women rep will be included.“Make no mistake, I am in the race to challenge those who want Nyali to fall into the hands of the corrupt, but I will do so with my ideals, my morals, and my belief that come rain or shine, I will do my utmost for you,” Moha said.Majority aspirants in key political parties- ODM and Jubilee who did not succeed during nominations are contesting for the August election as independents.
