[Photo/tuko.co.ke]Former presidential candidate Cyrus Jirongo has been declared bankrupt.This is after the High Court found he was unable to pay a debt amounting to Sh700 million, which he owed businessman Sammy Kogo.Kogo had allowed Jirongo to secure a loan from National Bank using his eight companies as security. The companies included Masole Ltd, Baia Enterprises Ltd, Gilera Ltd, Koti Developers, Saman Developers Ltd, Kenete Enterprises Ltd, Marimio Enterprises Ltd, and Linsala Enterprises.After the former Lugari MP failed to repay the lender, the bank sold the properties at a public auction in 2009.“Having heard the petitioner and having read the creditor’s petition, and having seen the exhibits, the court hereby orders that Shakhalanga Khwa Jirongo be adjudged bankrupt by virtue of the bankruptcy order,” Justice Olga Sewe ruled, Monday.“The court further orders that an official receiver be appointed as a trustee of the estate of the bankrupt," added the judge.Jirongo has also been sued by Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli for failing to pay back Sh110 million.
