Former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo has hinted at vying for the presidency during the forthcoming general elections.
In a telephone interview with The Star Newspaper on Wednesday, the UDP leader confirmed that he was in talks with the Opposition alliance NASA that could see him join the fold.
He, however, said he will give the presidency a stab if the NASA talks fail to yield fruits.
“I have given Raila my offer, if I’m to join NASA. I’m waiting for him to come back to me. If he doesn’t return with convincing answers, I will mobilise resources and run for the presidency,” he said.
Jirongo had initially indicated that he would not go for the country's top seat if Amani National Congress Leader Musalia Mudavadi is made NASA flag bearer.
The coalition has since settled on ODM Party leader Raila Odinga as its presidential candidate, with Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka set to deputize him.
Mudavadi, Senator Moses Wetangula and Bomet governor Isaac Rutto are poised for senior government positions.
