Former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo has found himself in trouble just a day after he reportedly declared bankrupt by the High Court.
Jirongo is said to have failed to repay a debt of Ksh700 million, allowing an application to be declared bankrupt.
In a separate matter, a High Court sitting in Nairobi has established that the former Presidential candidate is personally liable to pay Ksh110 million to COTU boss Francis Atwoli.
On Thursday, Justice Francis Tuiyot ruled that Jirongo had entered into an agreement with Atwoli, who had reportedly advanced aa friendly loan of Ksh100 million plus a Ksh10 million.
“In the face of the unequivocal acceptance of August 10, 2016, by Mr Jirongo to be personally liable for the advanced sums, he cannot shift liability to Kuza," the Judge stated.
“Mr Jirongo’s indebtness was plain and obvious in the acknowledgment and undertaking of August 10, 2016," he added.
On his part, Jirongo admitted to have received the sum of money from Atwoli last August, and was bound to repay fifty days later.
