Former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo believes Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s presidential bid is a strategy to lock the Luhya community out of presidential running mate quest.

Musyoka challenged Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga to back him in 2017 polls, insisting that he is not ready to play second fiddle.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Jirongo dismissed Musyoka’s ambitions and maintained that he was only keen to protect his number two position.

“Kalonzo is playing tight so that no Luhya takes his running mate post because of Musalia Mudavadi factor. Raila is networked both locally and internationally, an evidence that Musyoka is just playing cards to protect his place in opposition,” read the post.

“There is no way a person with just 10 MPs can run against someone who controls the largest single party in the country. Let us be honest on serious matters like competing in the presidential race. Raila is able to garner more support than even incumbent President,” added Jirongo.

The opposition team under the leadership of veteran politician Raila Odinga is reportedly crafting a coalition of parties dubbed The National Super Alliance (NASA), which will wrestle President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party.
