Former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo has been sued for failing to settle a debt amounting to Sh42 million.
Emris Investment Ltd decided to take Jirongo to court in a bid to make him pay the debt he owes the company.
The management of the firm sued the politician and his company Kuza Farm and Allied Ltd after attempts to have him settle the debt proved futile.
This move comes amid reports that he was waiting for a payment of Sh250 million from the Nairobi City County for the two acres of land on which a primary school has been constructed.
“Since judgement was entered against him to pay the debt, he has been issuing bouncing cheques and failed to settle the amount. We have information that the Nairobi City County is going to pay him a substantial amount. We want part of it to settle our debt,” said lawyer Mutembei Marete, as quoted by The Standard.
It all started in 2008 when the accused entered into a sale agreement with the complainant to sell a parcel of land located at Imara Daima estate, Nairobi.
According to the firm, Jirongo was paid Sh12 million. However, the sale agreement was not sealed since the land had been sold to another party without their knowledge.
In 2013, the firm sued Jirongo and he was ordered to pay Sh32 million plus Sh10 million as interest bringing the total amount to Sh42 million, which he did not honor.
"He has only paid Sh2 million since the judgement was entered. Despite constant reminders, he has failed to pay up and issued five bouncing cheques,” said Mr Marete.
The case will be heard on Friday.
