Jomo Kenyatta International Airport’s car park earlier converted into an Arrivals lounge after Terminal 1 was destroyed by an inferno is set to be opened next month.
The reopening will pump some Sh4 million into the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) that manages the facility.
KAA Marketing and Business Development Manager Jimmy Kibati said the garage is 95 per cent into completion and only a few security items are waiting to be fixed.
“Work at the garage is complete and it is currently in operation but only to airport personnel, however we will open it next month for commercial use,” said Kibati.
He said the garage has parking slots for about 1,300 vehicles and that each car will pay Sh100 on average with the charges however depending on the duration a car is parked.
“We are putting adequate measures in place in terms of security standards, and this includes closing some of the parking yards which are closer to the terminals,” Kibati added.
