The laptop named Taifa is said to have been an idea of Elly Oki, a school engineering alumni in 2012.

The project is meant for students to leverage their competence and knowledge to venture into the entrepreneurship thus ending up as job creators and not job seekers, according to the Vice Chancellor Professor Mabel Imbuga.

Speaking at the event which was graced by Deputy President William Ruto in Juja Main campus, the VC said that the university will perpetuate the students innovation and development to help them come up with market ready products and advance their innovation projects.

She added that JKUAT is attracted to big entrepreneurial complex societal problems considering the gap in the market and use it as an opportunity to cut them a niche in the entrepreneurial industry.

She further said that the institution is dedicated to pioneering the innovations and reduce the soaring poverty level in the country.

Deputy President William Ruto speaking in the same event hailed the institution and the students for assembling the new Kenyan-made laptop terming it as intellect mind.

He said that Jubilee government is ready to work with inventors and innovators to the betterment of the vision 2030 and completion of the Standard Gauge Railway.
