Ngelani village residents in Mavoko Sub County are ups in arms over a shoddily done community dam meant to provide them with water.

According to Nzomo Mwendwa, one of the residents, the claimed dam, which was built two years ago, now remains a water pan that can hardly keep water.

Residents of Machakos county have for a long time experienced water shortage problem and in efforts to address the challenge, the County Government set up a community water reservoir to supply people with water for domestic purposes in Ngelani village.

“Our hope for domestic water supply has remained a pipe dream despite the county government of Machakos digging a dam for us. The dam can barely supply 1o households with water, what is the meaning of this? The county government did a less-than-through job and they need to reconsider giving the dam a facelift,” said Mwendwa.

According to the residents, the location of the dam was as well was ill-advised as there isn’t any direct rain watercourse.

Speaking to the press today (Friday) in Ngelani village, the villagers said that the dam is currently with full of silt to the chagrin of the thirsty locals.

The residents said that they are forced to walk long distances in search of the rare commodity. They are now calling upon Machakos county government to deliver their water promise to all.

Area MCA George Kingori urged the residents to give the county government time to rectify the said dam.

“Plans are underway to ensure that the residents have steady clean water supply and they should be rest assured that the county government is doing everything in its capacity to deliver on that pledge,” said Kingori.

Two dams were planned to be built in the area but only one was built which, according to the people, still do not serve the purpose for which it was meant.
