Kisumu County Assembly Public Service Board member Margret Jobita on Tuesday survived an impeachment after members of the public petitioned the Assembly concerning her performance.
The County Assembly Committee on Labour carried out the investigations after the petition and found out that she is not fit to continue holding the position and recommended her removal.
When the report was tabled in the County Assembly, majority of the MCAs defended Jobita with a handful, mainly those in the Labour Committee pressing for her removal.
Wawidhi Ward Representative Moses Ochele who led the onslaught for her removal claimed Jobita has failed to discharge her duties as required and should not be kept in the Assembly Board.
Ochele said the Board has been rotten noting that members like former Speaker Ann Adul, former Clerk Nelco Sagwe and former Minority Leader Edwin Anayo have technically exited the Board.
He said that the remaining members Jobita and Majority Leader Samuel Ong’ou ‘must’ leave to ensure the Board is reconstituted with fresh ‘blood’.
Nyalenda A Ward Representative Jacktone Onunga however said that the attempt to remove Jobita who is a member of his Ward is witch hunt and he will stand by her.
Onunga said Jobita is being sacrificed for no apparent reason stating that she should be retained in the Board, since accordng to him, there was nothing gross done by Jobita.
The public who petitioned the Assembly argued that Jobita has kept quite when there is massive corruption in the Board that also led to the naming of Adul in the EACC report.
When temporary Speaker Samuel Ombogo put the question on whether the report be adopted by the House, majority of MCAs shot it down.
Kolwa East Ward Representative Osumba Olum protested against members who shot the report down accusing them of being compromised to defeat the report.
