There was a stampede at export processing zone, EPZ in Athi River on June 30 after it announced job vacancies on Wednesday.
Thousands of jobless youths throng the company to get a chance to be considered for various positions that the company had announced were vacant.
Hela, a department that deals with garments, had announced verbally that it needs machine and plant operators.
The word spread like bush fire and by 6am in the morning today, jobless youths started trickling in from Kitengela, Athi River, Mlolongo and Machakos town.
By around 9am, the crowd became too huge that the staffs, who were to conduct the recruitment exercise, were confused.
The youths could not organize themselves prompting the staffs to close the gate and issue application forms over the fence.
One middle-aged woman collapsed in the mile and the exercise had to be stopped for close to 3 hours.
"We were targeting only 600 people but we got shocked and overwhelmed when all these people (around 2,000) came," one of the staffs said.
