Nakuru County based Human Rights Activist Zachary Musembi has warned locals seeking for jobs abroad about harsh working and living conditions which he said has claimed lives in those foreign countries.
While addressing members of Rongai Women Groups Association at Kambi ya Moto business centre on Saturday as a guest speaker during a table banking and investment workshop, Musembi, who is also a part time lecturer at Kabarak University warned local parents against falling into human trafficking traps.
He said that many young Kenyans who had been duped into travelling out of the country to seek for jobs were undergoing untold sufferings in the hands of their foreign masters and law enforcers.
In the recent past many cases have been reported about harsh conditions of work, some of which result in death of many Kenyans in foreign countries in search of greener pastures. Some who have been luck to find their way back, have narrated ordeal they went through while in custody of their employers who ‘treat them like abandoned dogs’
He advised parents to help their young men and children employ themselves locally instead of allowing them travel out of the country to undergo suffering.
“I urge our parents to assist our young men and women vulnerable of being lured into foreign lands to secure self employment opportunities here at home. There is no gold out there but only suffering that is why I beg you parents and guardians not to allow them get into foreign jobs trapsand only to regret later,’’ said Musembi.
Musembi added that there is no big difference between a local jobs or business opportunities where one can earn Sh10,000 or 20,000 compared to the same amount abroad under inhuman conditions.
“Most foreign employers treat immigrants inhumanly while many suffer in silence and even lose their lives,” added Musembi.
