Machakos senator Johnstone Muthama is a fierce politician and a tough businessman who is not new to controversies.
He is being held at Pangani police station with 5 other politicians over hate speech remarks.
This is not the first time the senator is being grilled by the police over hate speech allegations.
On January 14, 2016, the hashtag #ArrestMuthamaNow trended on Twitter and Facebook.
This came after the State house director of digital communications Dennis Itumbi posted an audio clip on Twitter where Muthama was recorded threatening ethics and anti-corruption commission CEO Halakhe Waqo.
On September 29, 2015, Kikuyu council of elders, Kiama Kia Ama, threatened to curse the senator if he does not apologize for demeaning the president.
The senator had, on September 25, 2015, uttered derogatory words against the president and the former devolution cabinet secretary Anne Waiguru.
Recently, Muthama's supporters started a social media campaign using the tags #ReleaseSenatorMuthama and #IstandWithSenatorMuthama.
Clearly, Kenyans love him and hate him equally.
